Exclusive interview and pictures with Nicole Richie at Selfridges

Yesterday evening Nicole Richie was at Selfridges department store in London to promote her Winter Kate clothing line. I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to go to the event and interview Nicole Richie.

I travelled to London from Liverpool with my friend and guest editor of NRICHIENEWS Jen. When we arrived at Selfridges I was super nervous to meet Nicole, it was the first time I had ever interviewed anyone and this was my idol I had to interview!

We were taken 'backstage' to meet Nicole, and I was still SO nervous! Nicole came through and greeted us with a hug she was so welcoming that my nerves just disappeared and it soon felt like I was just chatting to a friend who just happened to be Nicole Richie!

Nicole & I. - Nicole posted this picture on her Twitter account.

We chatted a little with Nicole and then we were lucky enough to be allowed to sit in on two press interviews with her. Nicole spoke to a magazine about her travel from Paris by EuroStar train (& how the eggs were amazing!) to get to London.

Although Nicole's schedule was tight she wasn't phased, everything was so relaxed. We decided to do the interview after the instore event. So not only did we get the opportunity to meet Nicole before the event we also got to watch her during the event and then go 'backstage' to complete our interview.

NRICHIENEWS fashion interview with Nicole Richie at Selfridges in London

Do you have a famous style icon?
Actually when I was younger, I used to look at my Mom when she would get her hair and make-up done, she was always going to different places with my Dad. I was sitting in her Bath tub, I would look at her getting ready and I would want to be just like her. She always wore some really great Alaia and Chanel.

Fans around the world would like to know if you have any plans to open your own stores for Winter Kate and House of Harlow 1960?
A few people have asked me that, you know I can’t rule out anything. It’s not something that’s happening any time soon. Right now I’m just really focused on my line.

Where do you draw inspiration from when designing your Winter Kate pieces?
For this collection i’m inspired by the 60’s and the 70’s. That was the influence for this collection.

If you had to pick one piece from the Winter Kate collection, which would be your favourite?
I would say the Kimono.
( Nicole also spoke about owning her own collection of vintage Kimono’s.)

We know that your S/S 2010 Winter Kate collection is inspired by the 60’s and the 70’s. Can we expect the same theme for your A/W collection, or will it take a new direction?
No, it’s actually totally different! It’s really a much more sophisticated and clean alot of the line is mostly black, white and grey. There is really cute tuxedo jackets, and some things are carried through. But there is a lot more things with subtle detail, defined shoulders and we have corset backgrounds.

We love your make-up it always looks flawless! Do you have any favourite products which you use?
You know, I actually don’t know how to do make-up! If you ever see me wearing make-up, i’ve had it done! I can do my own hair, but I can’t do my own make-up.

You are always pictured in amazing clothes. Do you have any vintage treasures?
I do, I collect Ossie Clark and Thea Porter.

Would you of thought 10 years ago that you would be a successful designer, has it always been your dream?
It’s always been something that i’ve wanted to do, So i’m really excited that I have the opportunity to do it.

Is your television programme still going ahead which you have metioned?
Yes it’s in the very beginning stages, Right now it’s a pilot.

We love your hat, can you tell us who it is by?
It is actually Tom Ford.

You can listen to a short snipped of our interview below.

Thank you to Nicole Richie and her team for giving me this opportunity, it was a great experience and I hope it was as much fun for you as it was for me!
